The Cultured Collector

A rare insider’s tour of extraordinary art collections, led by CULTURED magazine founder and editor-in-chief Sarah Harrelson

'Sarah's vision is shaping what the future of collecting can be – more inclusive, more reflective of the world we live in.' – Venus Williams

As the creative force behind CULTURED magazine – a zeitgeist-defining publication dedicated to highlighting the vanguard of art, fashion, food, and design – Sarah Harrelson has rare access to the world’s most spectacular private art collections.

In The Cultured Collector, Harrelson gives readers exclusive entrée into the homes of top collectors. Expanding on the magazine’s enormously popular “Collector Questionnaire” column, this beautifully illustrated book offers an immersive tour of 30 unique art collections. More than 200 color photographs showcase artworks in situ, revealing a glimpse at the intriguing personality-filled interior spaces that house each collection. Insightful conversations with the collectors, including Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz, Rashid Johnson, Michelle and Jason Rubell, Joe Jonas, and Daniel Humm, offer wisdom gained through years of viewing, evaluating, loving, and living with art.

Central to The Cultured Collector is the notion that art-as-investment is only a small part of collecting (and perhaps its least interesting imperative). The book’s pages burst with blue-chip art, design objects, and cultural artifacts, but what makes these collections truly exceptional is the significance the objects hold for the collectors and the unique individuality of their collecting strategies.

Designed to inspire aesthetes, art lovers, and other consumers of creative culture, The Cultured Collector illustrates the inspiring breadth of approaches to acquiring and living with art.
