Building Berlin, Vol. 8

Berlin\'s building industry is booming - and along with it a wide range of ideas on its architectural future. They react to the city\'s outstanding situation in Europe, with its subcultural creative spaces, ambitious major construction projects and innovative housing development, all in close proximity to each other. Every year, Berlin architects meet the challenge of bringing together this unparalleled diversity of people and architecture - with great success! This volume presents a carefully curated selection of the most exciting current building projects both in and outside the capital. For instance, densification projects are creating inner-urban housing, while existing buildings are being sustainably reactivated and green spaces designed as cultural and local recreation areas. In addition to these project presentations, informative essays analyse and discuss backgrounds, trends and developments affecting (not only) Berlin: including the latest interior design trends such as
fine dining in a club atmosphere, the current wave of school building and the question of how to reclaim the city from cars.
